Toys Meet Snow

01/27/2023

Toys Meet Snow by Emily Jenkins and Paul O. Zelinsky, offers the story of a beautiful first snow adventure for three toys: Lumpy, the stuffed buffalo, Sting Ray, a furry dry-clean-only toy, and Plastic, a bright, red ball. When their girl and her family are away on vacation they decide to venture outside and enjoy the snow.  Children will love the experience as the toys get ready to go outside, with a mitten for Lumpy’s head (he gets cold) and a plastic bag for Sting Ray (to keep him dry). Once outside, the toys encounter the joy and wonder of the snowfall. Each toy has its own perspective, whether it’s poetic, inquisitive, or scientific. The gorgeous Zelinsky illustrations imbue the story with warmth and charm. As with any truly glorious snow day, it ends with the cozy comfort of home. A perfect read aloud for a snuggly winter day.
