Where Is the Sun

Book Review: "Where Is the Sun?" by Eric Carle

The world lost a children’s literature star when Eric Carle died in May of this year. His enchanting prose and poetry and his lovely art was a pillar for many a child’s reading experience. Although he is gone, his work lives on to encourage and inspire children forever, and “Where Is the Sun?” is a perfect example of that.

Part of Simon & Schuster’s Ready-to-Read collection, this little book is for new readers. The book begins with some words and sounds new readers should learn and practice before reading the charming story. Once those have been mastered, the reader follows the sun around the world, as it travels high and low, bright and dime. Children will learn a little bit about what the sun does for Earth and for different species as they follow the pieced-paper illustrations along. The book ends with some questions for readers to reflect on what they have learned and how they feel about the story. This is a great time to discuss the book with others, reinforcing the concepts.

This short but delightful story will be a favorite for new and struggling readers and is sure to circulate and endure in your library, just as all Penworthy Prebound Books are guaranteed to do.  Find this book on our website here.
