Fun Science Resources for Families
Hunting for things to interest the young scientists in your
community? Here’s some online resources we think are interesting.
·
PBS Kids: Science Games
PBS Kids has a page full of science
games for kids, which entertain while teaching scientific principles from coding
to astronomy to animal habitats. We really like Mindy’s Constellation
Exploration, combining astronomy and storytelling; find it here. To see the full
page of PBS Kids Science Games, click here.
·
How Stuff Works
Though aimed at young adults and
adults, this website is loaded with fun information on a variety of topics,
from cooking and gardening to space exploration and engineering. Budding engineers and car geeks will love this article
about the world’s most expensive cars. To view the wide range of information
they have on their site, click here
for their home page.
·
Science News for Students
We cannot write a better
description of this organization than what is already on their website. ”Founded
in 2003, Science News for Students is an award-winning online
publication dedicated to providing age-appropriate, topical science news to
learners, parents and educators." Everything from climate
change to the science
of Star Wars droids can be found on this engaging website. Find it all here.
·
Neuro Transmissions
“It’s not rocket surgery, it’s
brain science!” This award-winning YouTube channel teaches kids and adults
about how the brain works, both biologically and psychologically. The creators
are a husband-and-wife team of a PhD neuroscientist and a psychological
counselor who use fun animations, music, sound effects, and even their cats to
teach non-scientists about the brain. You can view a primer on the parts of the
brain here.
You’ll find their full catalog, which even includes advice for students looking
for grad schools and fun music videos about the world of research labs, here.
